Shoulder Season Value: Why September Is the Best Month to Visit Georgian Bay

By September, the crowds that fill Georgian Bay all July and August have mostly gone home, but the weather hasn't gotten the memo yet. That gap, warm days with a quieter property around you, is exactly what makes September the month regulars at Living Water Resorts tend to know about, and first-timers usually don't.

The marina is still open, and it's quieter

If paddleboarding or kayaking is on your list, the first week of September is worth planning around specifically. Stand-up paddleboard and kayak rentals at Living Water Marina run daily through September 7, so there's still a full window to use your complimentary hour of SUP or kayak time, this time without the peak-August lineup at the rental dock. Jet skis and guided excursions through Xtreme Adventures are also still running during this window.

Golf without the peak-season wait

September tends to bring some of the most comfortable golf conditions of the year at Living Stone Golf Resort, cooler mornings, fewer bugs, and a course that isn't booked as tightly as it is in July and August. It's a good month for golfers who'd rather not compete for tee times, and Station on the Green's patio is just as good a place to end a round in September as it is in peak summer, with a lot less of a wait.

The spa is easier to book too

The same logic applies to Living Shore Spa. Weekend Aquapath sessions and treatments that book out fast in summer tend to have more availability in September, which makes it a good window for a couples' spa day or a solo reset without planning weeks ahead just to get a time slot.

A preview of fall, without fully committing to it yet

Late September starts to bring the first hints of fall colour to the region, especially at higher elevations, so a September stay gives you a preview of the season change without needing to wait for peak leaf-peeping crowds in October. The Collingwood Farmers' Market also continues running on Saturdays through Thanksgiving, so it's still an easy add-on if you're heading into town.

Easier to book, less to plan around

Practically speaking, September trips tend to be easier to put together on shorter notice than a July or August stay. Availability is generally more flexible, and you're less likely to need to book activities like marina rentals or spa treatments far in advance just to guarantee a spot. For anyone who's been putting off a Georgian Bay trip because peak summer felt too booked-up or too crowded, September is the month that solves both problems at once.

Planning your stay

Book your stay at Living Water Resorts and pair it with a marina session before September 7, a quieter round at Living Stone Golf Resort, or a spa day at Living Shore Spa, whichever fits what you're looking to slow down and enjoy.
