A season of caring, belonging, and gentle joy
.
As Christmas returns, I am reminded that joy is not the outcome of a perfect world but of people who choose to walk together with care.
This year has brought economic challenges and a world that often feels uncertain and threatening. Yet here at Living Water, we continue to support our team and our guests with kindness and quiet care, creating a true sense of belonging and peace.
This newsletter - with its stories of care, success and growth - is a cherished way for us to connect with our dear guests, friends, and readers, sharing the joy and gratitude that continue to shape our Living Water community.
The happiness we share with stories throughout this newsletter is not decoration; these stories are our lived experience. We write them because joy, when shared honestly, strengthens a community and reminds us that our work is rooted in caring, not convenience.
Our celebrations this season reflect that spirit beautifully.
The Christmas Door Contest brightens our hallways with laughter and friendly creativity. Our Staff Christmas Party welcomes longtime colleagues and new team members to one table with equal warmth. And the Children’s Christmas Party, with its excitement and wonder, reminds us that joy is strongest when it is simple and freely given.
Care in our community is not seasonal — it is daily.
Our Employee Care Services team, led with gentleness and compassion by Pastor Dan and Shelly, offers seminars that address the real challenges our team members face.
Topics such as Seasonal Affective Disorder, emotional resilience, and hope during difficult seasons reminded us that support is not an event but a gift of presence. My wife Maria’s encouraging seminar on healthy eating and nourishment added another layer of care, reminding us that tending to our bodies is also a way of tending to our hearts.
A Community That Cares Beyond Celebration
This year, I am especially grateful for many tangible ways we continue to support one another.
Our subsidized staff housing has enabled many of our team members to build stability close to work and community, and for some, it has become a stepping stone to a new chapter of life. In the new staff lounge, $4 lunches prepared by our Lakeside culinary team offer more than a meal — they provide an opportunity to pause, sit with friends, and feel at home. Scholarships were awarded to team members and their sons and daughters to provide a stepping stone for their future.
These gestures are quiet but powerful, and they carry the same spirit that shapes our celebrations and our work.
Our commitment to caring also extends into the community this year through support for the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts and funds raised by our Cranberry Business League and the annual Stix n’ Stones Tournament for Breaking Down Barriers, team members providing and serving hot dogs for more than 300 students at lunch, the donation of 166 shoe boxes filled with toys to children around the world, as well as many other initiatives that strengthen community life.
We are not simply a resort — and not merely a resort on the water, though we remain the only one in our region.
We are much more than that.
We are, at heart, a caring and loving destination within reach, a place where belonging is felt rather than described.
As I often like to say, 2 + 2 = 5 — because when people care, listen, and serve with open hearts, the result is always greater than the sum of its parts.
Just as guests come here and feel a sense of togetherness, we know that those who will live in our new Retirement Residence will find that same welcome — caring, dignified, and rooted in genuine belonging.
As we enter this sacred season, may we continue to choose tenderness in how we speak, patience in how we listen, and joy in how we gather.
When we care sincerely, we discover that we are never alone and always have enough to share.
May the peace of Christ, whose presence brings quiet hope and steady joy, bless your home and your gatherings this Christmas.
