Creativity Creates Opportunity In Collingwood and Around the World

Our Donation to the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts Earlier this year, our Executive Vice-President of Operations, Donald Buckle, presented a cheque to the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts.

The amount represents the full commissions from every Zimbabwean stone sculpture sold at the resort, supporting local workshops, programs, and the artists who depend on them.

It was a small moment with a broad reach — fostering creativity here in Collingwood while honouring the sculptors in Zimbabwe whose work made it possible.

Our connection to these sculptures began years ago when Larry Law and his wife, Maria, discovered them at an exhibit in Toronto. Each piece, carved free-form from serpentine stone with simple tools and hours of sanding, carries a story of resilience — artists in remote villages relying on their craft to support families and communities.

Larry has always felt a quiet connection to their work. Watching raw stone take shape recalled the early days of Cranberry and Living Water, when patience, faith, and persistence mattered more than resources. These sculptors start with very little. So did we.

Bringing their art to the resort has never been about decoration, but recognition — giving these artists a place where their talent can be seen and appreciated, and allowing each purchase to create opportunity on both sides of the world.

Melanie North, Board Member and Director of Marketing at BMFA, commented:

“The Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts is deeply grateful to Living Water Resorts for this generous donation. We are truly thankful to Living Water Resorts for investing in creativity, connection, and the cultural life of our region.”

When commissions reach the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts, the circle widens a little more. One act leads to another. One stepping stone becomes the next.

While in Collingwood this festive season, visit the BMFA Winter’s Gift Holiday Market, open weekly until the end of December and featuring original art by local artists and artisans. Discover one-of-a-kind gifts while directly supporting the local arts community.
